It’s been a HOT year for the music charts. Between TikTok challenges, satellite radio and YouTube, today’s recording artists have many opportunities to connect your ears to their audio artistry. We’ve put together a list of our 10 FAVORITE DANCE HITS to help you get off the couch after some Thanksgiving feasting!
10. Toosie Slide
Drake’s track may be describing the King of Pop’s famous moonwalk, but he’s choreographed his own dance to it. The artist boasts in the lyrics, “I can dance like Michael Jackson.” While you’re making that judgement call consider that, according to Official Charts, Toosie Slide spent 20 weeks on the charts and made it all the way to #1. The music video, which simply follows Drake dancing around his house, enjoyed over 240 million views.
9. Que Calor
Que Calor, translated “It’s So Hot”, topped Latin song sales in 2019 and spent 32 weeks on the charts. The video, which premiered in September 2019, reached over 100 million views . Artist Major Lazer, alongside El Alfa & J. Balvin, certainly created a beat every bit as hot as its title promises.
8. Don’t Start Now
Dua Lipa released “Don’t Start Now”on Halloween 2019. The 80’s inspired track made it to No.2 within two weeks of its release and peaked at No.1 on the Billboards Pop Songs Chart back in February! Besides being one of this year’s best “break-up” anthems, listeners clearly love this track. To date, it has 14k downloads, over 400k views, and 13.2 million streams.
Released by Justin Bieber on January 3rd, the single peaked on Billboard Hot 100 at No.2 only 2 weeks after its debut. “Yummy” is clearly a tasty track for dancers. It spent 15 weeks on the charts and logged over 500 million video views.
6. Say So
Doja Cat won this year’s PUSH Best New Artist at the VMA’s and The People’s Choice Awards New Artist of 2020. The “Say So” music video holds over 240 million views and has inspired countless other choreography pieces. Doja Cat has shown itself to be a strong follow up to her first album in 2018.
5. Savage Remix
Originally released by Megan Thee Stallion on March 6, 2020, the single became a viral dance challenge on TikTok with almost 30 million video uploads. Shortly after, Beyonce released her own remix. The dance challenge was simple enough for dancers of all ability levels, clearing the way for its monumental popularity on TikTok.
4. Rain On Me
Lady Gaga and Arianna Grande partnered to record this powerful single that was an immediate favorite for dancers everywhere. After its release on May 22, 2020, the single quickly hit No.1 on Billboard Hot 100 and, by June 1st, had over 30 million streams. The music video spotlights amazing dancers and choreographers. After being released on August 7th, it hit No.1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 with 125k downloads, 93 million streams, and almost 300 million music video views. The music video features a special guest, Kylie Jenner, known to be the youngest billionaire and a huge social media darling.
2. Blinding Lights
The single by The Weeknd released in November of 2019 with almost 300 MILLION views on YouTube, and it is still going strong! According to the Official Charts, the single has 50 weeks on the charts (WOC) and 8 weeks as No.1. The song brings the 80’s back to life, and many believe it samples the classic “Take On Me”. While the electronic, quick beats are similar, they are not identical. If you haven’t already, consider checking out the viral dance challenge on TikTok for a good laugh!
1. Dance Monkey
Released by the Australian artist Tones and I in May of 2019, the hit has spent 68 weeks on the charts, 11 of those in the No.1 spot!. It’s catchy and the repetitive lyrics will stick in your head for days. The music video, dropped at the end of June 2019, has over 1 BILLION views! With those kinds of numbers, you might assume the video features crazy effects or superstar cameos. In reality, it’s a bunch of dancing senior citizens.
